Gary Benfield
Represented by Park West Gallery
Biography
Gary Benfield was born in England’s West Midlands and trained at Stourbridge College of Art before continuing his studies at Wrexham College of Art. After completing his formal education, he established his own studio near London, where he focused on drawing and painting figures. Within just a few years, his work gained collectors throughout Europe and his reputation became firmly established.
An award-winning illustrator, Benfield possesses a natural gift for capturing subjects as he sees them. His spontaneous approach is evident in the drawn lines and dashes of color that characterize his style. The figures in his work seem to dissolve in and out of their backgrounds, creating movement across the surfaces of his paintings and graphic works. He works rapidly and maintains exacting standards, discarding most pieces and keeping only those he feels are perfected in their conception rather than overworking images that don’t feel quite right.
In recent years, Benfield’s work has begun appearing in galleries throughout America as well as Europe. He is represented by Park West Gallery, where collectors appreciate his dynamic figurative style and spontaneous artistic approach.
