Alexander and Wissotzky

Biography

Tanya Wissotzky and Alexander Galtchansky were both born in 1959 in Crimea, then an autonomous republic within Ukraine. Their artistic journeys began at separate art schools—Alexander studied in Dnepropetrovsk while Wissotzky trained in Simferopol. They later continued their education at the Kiev Institute of the Arts, where Wissotzky focused on painting and Alexander specialized in book illustration.
After marrying, the couple immigrated to Israel, where they merged their creative talents and began collaborating as a single artistic entity. Working in acrylic, pen and ink, and collage on specially prepared canvas, they create distinctive still lifes that incorporate excerpts of calligraphy from old English flower painting manuals and quotations celebrating 1920s Paris. Their work carries a nostalgic, romantic quality that evokes times past.
Alexander and Wissotzky have achieved critical acclaim both in Israel and internationally, with their artwork held in public and private collections worldwide. They have exhibited at prestigious venues including Art Expo New York, BLD New York, Galaxy Gallery in Gothenburg, Sweden, and Geissing Design Institution in Hamburg, Germany. A permanent exhibition of their work is displayed at Binyanei Hauma in Jerusalem, and a book documenting their life and art has been published. The duo is represented by Park West Gallery.
