Biography
Diana Mendoza is a former teacher and designer who creates spiritual art by blending European and Peruvian techniques in a distinctive style that combines gold and silver leafing with oil on canvas. Born in Junin, Peru, she enjoyed creating art from a young age and sketched throughout school. Though she initially pursued engineering, she ultimately studied fine art instead.
In 1969, Mendoza graduated from the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes with high honors in painting and drawing. After working as a teacher and designer, she made the decision to devote herself entirely to painting. Beyond her artistic talents, she is also an accomplished musician and mother.
Mendoza works primarily with spiritual and religious imagery and is best known for her renderings of the blessed Madonna. Her style fuses European techniques with her Peruvian arts education, using skillful precision to create detailed works. She begins by drawing an image, often inspired by the Old Masters, then achieves dramatic texture through the application of relief. She brings the drawing to life with oil paints and gold leaf before completing her creation with a touch of patinas. The artist is represented by Park West Gallery and constantly hones her technique while creating both large and small format artworks that convey feelings of peace, protection and happiness.
