Jane Wooster Scott

Biography

Jane Wooster Scott paints vibrant scenes of turn-of-the-century and early 20th century Americana, capturing a time when life felt simpler, more energetic, and innocent. Her work features quintessential American moments like children skating, countryside picnics, bobbing for apples, and holiday celebrations. Using bright colors and nostalgic settings, she preserves vanishing memories of American life that have traveled through the last century.
Growing up in Dutch Pennsylvania, Scott was surrounded by quaint white churches, schoolhouses, red barns, and Amish communities that would later inspire her artistic vision. Today, when she travels through New England visiting Cape Cod, rural Vermont, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket, she briefly sketches these places on paper but saves the details for her canvas. Despite living in fast-paced Los Angeles, Scott prefers depicting the slower pace of the good old days, when front doors were left unbolted and families gathered across multiple generations.
Her collectors have included Aaron Spelling, Marlon Brando, Farrah Fawcett, and William Ahmanson. Her works hang in prestigious locations including the American Embassy in Australia and the White House’s permanent collection. Jane Wooster Scott is represented by Park West Gallery.
